Drive out to George Alaskas lake for a try at some ice fishing before the end of 2023.
This little puddle lake is 60 or so km north of Sudbury, on HWY 144.
A thin layer of about 4 or more inches of ice covered the surface of this little lake.

We set up on a clearing on the bank of the lake. And walked down to the ice with our gear to find we only had to break some thin ice in previously drilled holes.

After an hour or so some other people came by asking if it was safe and they as well walked onto the ice with minimal gear and set up further from us on the lake. (Near the point on the right, in the above picture).
My dear friend Mike cooked up a nice bacon, eggs and toast for breakfast, what a treat!

I have a thing for slime moulds and fungi, if I haven't already mentioned. I found a really neat coral fungi it was just about in decomposition stage. I didn't think of taking a picture. I did pick it up to examine it and show Mike.

These are some sort of puffball (des pèttes de loup).

Always nice to appreciate the little things and embrace a bit of everything around you. There were grouse hidden in the bushes. The dog had chased one in the tree. On the ice we could hear some woodpecker knocking at a tree and songbirds in the distance.

At times the sun would peak through the clouds. Right after it would hide again and we would be showered in a freezing drizzle/snow.

And just like that it was close to lunch time and our neighbors down on the lake had a fish on a line.
And someone else was setting up on the far side of the lake. I'm thinking this was more of a an afternoon -evening bite kinda lake. It would be perfect for an overnight fishing trip. This lake is also surrounded by many other similar lakes which can provide ample possibilities for adventures.

I hope you've enjoyed reading about this little trip. More to come!
